Four ways to request a locate:

Locate requests should be called in by the person or company that will be performing the actual excavation in order to be covered by the locate request number provided by Mississippi One-Call System, Inc. MS Law 77-3-1 requires excavators to notify owners of underground facilities at least two (2) and not more than ten (10) working days (Saturday, Sunday and legal Holidays excluded) before digging. Marking your proposed excavation site with white paint or white flags prior to calling in your locate request will help confirm to the locator(s) the exact location you will be excavating. Who is required to give notice to Mississippi One-Call?
Anyone using mechanical equipment or explosives to excavate, or excavating deeper than 12 inches without the use of mechanical equipment, or the removing of a structure or mass of materials on or below the ground in the state of Mississippi must give advance notice to Mississippi One-Call.
I’m not going to dig very deep, should I call Mississippi One-Call?
The call is free. The information you will receive will benefit you in completing your project. Don’t assume the liability for damaging an unmarked underground line because you didn’t call.
What happens when I call?
The CSR will ask for information about the location and type of work to be done. The specific location information will be compared to service area information provided by member utilities. If a conflict occurs, the member utility will receive a notice of your intent to dig. The CSR will provide a reference number and a list of the member utilities that Mississippi One-Call will notify.
Color Code Information
WHITE – PROPOSED EXCAVATION
PINK – TEMPORARY SURVEY MARKINGS
RED – ELECTRIC POWER LINES, CABLES, CONDUIT AND LIGHTING CABLES.
YELLOW – GAS, OIL, STEAM, PETROLEUM OR GASEOUS MATERIALS
ORANGE – COMMUNICATION, ALARM OR SIGNAL LINES, CABLES OR CONDUIT
BLUE – POTABLE WATER
PURPLE – RECLAIMED WATER, IRRIGATION AND SLURRY LINES
GREEN – SEWERS AND DRAIN LINES
Location Tolerance Zone
“Approximate location” shall mean information about an operator’s underground facilities which is provided to a person by an operator and must be accurate within eighteen (18) inches measured horizontally from the outside edge of each side such operator’s facility or a strip of land eighteen (18) inches either side of the operator’s field mark.
An excavation within the location tolerance zone should be preformed with hand tools until you have reached the your required excavation depth.
